The actress began acting in television during the latter half of 1990 and appeared in a variety of films, such as The Woods and Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate. Bruckner started her acting career at the age of aged 11. She appeared on some TV pilots as well as the daytime show The Bold and the Beautiful that aired in 1999. Bruckner played a teenager in the film Blue Car (2002). The character was a teenage girl who was in a relationship with David Strathairn, her high-school teacher. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner performed the role confidently. Bruckner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female role in a film" for her performance in the film. She was raised with three siblings: one brother and two sisters. Her initial language was Hungarian, and she regularly trained in the language to become proficient. Bruckner was born in Hollywood California to a Hungarian father and mother who was a Russian mother, who later divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. Her parents were married in Hungary and moved from Hungary to U.S. in 1984 through the refugee camp located in Italy. Three siblings are hers three sisters: two of them, and one brother.
